James Fluehr Obituary

James F. Fluehr, 82, of Naples, FL and Leland, MI, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on June 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jim was the 4th of 16 children of Virginia (nee Smyth) and Joseph C. Fluehr, Sr. After graduating from Father Judge High School, he served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Army. Following his Honorable Service, Jim returned to Philadelphia and went to work in Real Estate and Insurance. After beginning as an Agent, Jim became a Broker and eventually the Vice President of Poquessing and Owner of Heritage Insurance. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed spending summers at the Jersey Shore in Avalon. He met and married the love of his life, Mary, and in 1993 they brought their twin daughters into the world. He was immensely proud of his girls and all their accomplishments. He cherished the time he spent with them in Naples, Philadelphia and Michigan. After his retirement, he liked to keep active. He enjoyed traveling and hiking in Northern Michigan, especially Clay Cliffs Natural Area next to his home.

Jim had a personality that endeared him to everyone he met. His sarcastic humor and fun-loving pranks will always be remembered, but his generosity offered without keeping score and gritty determination will never be forgotten. Jim loved to entertain his family and friends. He was a great cook and enjoyed bringing friends and family together to treat them to a wonderful meal and tell stories for hours. Jim always brought a smile or a laugh to his loved ones, and his toughness in his final days was a testament to his strength and character.

Beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Hovda). Devoted father of his twin daughters, Erika (Michael Mazzaccaro) and Kathryn. Cherished brother of the late Ginger Campbell, Joseph C., Jr. (Betsy), Marilyn, Robert, the late Lawrence, Thomas, Rosemary, Marita (George) Berkelbach, Marsi, Christopher (Lori), Brian (Marianne), Maureen, Marybeth (Don) Vandiver, Sharon (John) Kleinjan and Michael (Missy). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
